Raymond Lauchenco CD Launch
Here's something good friend Totoy Time Machine wanted to share with all you Bagets fans!

Catch the launch of Raymond Lauchengco's new CD "Full Circle (The Big Band Album)" on Friday, October 26, 6PM at the EDSA Shangrila Mall. The cd is a compilation of popular songs from the 80's (such as "Just Got Lucky", "Always Something There to Remind Me" and "Walking on Sunshine") that were re-arranged for a big band format. I played bass in the cd and will be acting as musical director of the launch. See you there =)

BTW, Raymond Lauchengco's cd "Full Circle (The Big Band Album)" is now available at major record bars. Hope you get a copy =)

Sinkong Chicharon Mystery Solved!

Posted on 11:52 AM by fjtrfjf
Yes yes yes yes!!!! Thanks to one of you (a certain someone who signed off as Anonymous), the Singkong Chicharon Mystery has been solved! I asked you guys to help me remember the original 80's tune where "Sing, sing, sing, singkong chicharon. Bentesingkong tira-tira, jis na pulburon" was lifted from, and thanks to this anonymous nostalgia fanatic, the mystery has been solved! The tune is by Silver Pozzoli, and the name of the tune is "Around My Dream"! OOOOOH MAN!!!! Now I can finally sleep!!!!
I really wish you guys would sign off using a nickname or something you made up, so I can give proper thanks to most of you people who simply go by "anonymous". But thanks again my anonymous friend! You've put my mind to rest. :)

All you people who love all the vintage commercials on here, good news! I told you I'd get the video of the Dragon Katol commercial going right? Well thanks to our good friend MonBC you can now watch that real funny commercial that never fails to make everyone laugh! I can watch that commercial over and over and I'll always be laughing.

I just love classic Filipino cinema. There's nothing like looking back to the golden years of Pinoy cinema, when the real stars of LVN and Sampaguita Pictures graced the screens of black and white tv sets and movie houses. That's why I decided to have Takilya Classics! I'll be posting this every other Thursday, featuring scans of rare photos and posters of classic Filipino stars and movies.

Hoy mga mahilig sa Iskul Bukol! Here's a cool announcement for all ISKUL BUKOL fans! I was recently contacted by Shari, one of the content researchers for I-Witness. She wanted to know if I had some TVJ material to lend her. Anyway, they're doing a special documentary on TVJ and Iskul Bukol: airing this Monday, October 8, 2007, after SAKSI. So don't miss that you TVJ fans, I'm sure it's going to be a great show.

It's Friday! What's everyone up to? I'm off to DJ at a special event here in NYC. Will be dedicating my first tune to all you nostalgia fanatics: "Around My Dream" by Silver Pozzoli of course! Otherwise known as "Singkong chicharon!"

Much love to everyone,
--NM

Thursday Nostalgia Coffee Break

Posted on 10:04 AM by fjtrfjf

Hey hey hey Nostalgia Fanatics! Time for a short coffee break (sit, sip, relax)... "Ahhhhhh!" Happy Thursday to everyone! The weekend is almost here so hooray for that right? You've been working so hard all week, it's time to relax!

It's been a real fun week here at Nostalgia Manila. I was so excited when a friend (hexseeker) told me about his collection of episodes of the Tarzan Lord Of The Jungle Cartoon by Filmation which aired in the late 70's. If I'm not mistaken, the show was on IBC 13(?) Thanks to hex, you'll be able to watch full-length episodes of this lost classic! I really loved watching this as a kid. It was one of my favorite cartoons, so thank you hex!

I walked around town yesterday and popped into a few vintage toy stores; something I love doing in my spare time. I saw a bunch of really cool stuff including some of the early 80's G.I. Joe action figures and toy vehicles. This reminded me of the new segment I've started called "Yo Joe!", which features original G.I. Joe artwork that came with the 80's G.I. Joe action figures and playsets. It'll surely bring you back to those days when you'd check out all those wonderful toys you've always wanted at Nova Fontana.

Thanks to Simon Santos, the prayers of a million Julie Vega fans have been answered! Simon has put together all these great photos of late teen star that every Julie Vega fan would just love. Thanks Simon!

J & G otherwise known as "THE WEA TWINS" LEFT A COMMENT on the page that shows their photo, featured in Photo Nostalgia! Thanks J & G, and thanks to Tuninii Villamor for sending in the photo.

I'm also working on getting that Dragon Katol tv advert back online. I got plenty of emails about it, and it sure gave a lot of people a good laugh while it was still viewable. So for those of you who haven't seen it, no worries, I'm working on it!

OH! Maybe one of you can HELP ME! I'm trying to remember a song! See, before I went to bed the other night, I started humming something I remembered from back in the day!

Do you remember singing: "Sing, sing, sing, singkong chicharon. Bentesingkong tira-tira, jis na pulburon." Hahaha! Anyone? I know this was lifted from an original 80's dance tune, but I don't remember what it was called! So if you somehow remember this, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT because I'm going nuts just trying to remember the name of that song.

I want to give everyone a chance to get some FREE MONEY! Yep, you heard that right! FREE MONEY!Make and easy $20 right now! This is NOT A GIMMICK! All you need is a blog and a PayPal account to receive your money. If you blog, you can get paid an easy $20! What are you waiting for? Follow the link and make an easy 20 bucks right now!

Have a great weekend everyone! You deserve it!

Always,

Happy Birthday Nostalgia Manila! NM Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary!

Posted on 2:18 PM by fjtrfjf

"Parang kailan lang, ang mga pangarap ko'y kay hirap abutin. Dahil sa inyo napunta ako sa aking nais marating. Nais ko kayong pasalamatan!" (Handog)

Wow! Time sure flies... one year! I remember it clearly when I first started Nostalgia Manila. It was this day, September 10th of last year, when I was somehow bitten by the nostalgia bug. You see I wasn't quite happy with the state of the world at the time. When we're not happy of how things are going in the present, we instinctively look back to our past for some comfort.

I looked through old photo albums while listening to old songs. I surfed the web and tried to find all sorts of things that reminded me of my childhood. I continued to absorb everything I could find, and I was soon engulfed in this unshakable state of pure nostalgia. It was this strange bittersweet feeling. You felt happy, laughing and smiling while remembering things you thought you've forgotten, but at the same time you felt a bit sad because you've learned that even after all these years, you still miss those things that made your life special.

This sort of time-travel experience made me realize how colorful Pinoy Pop Culture history was, and it was a shame that I couldn't find a place online that documented all this in detail. I felt so strongly about this new connection I had made with the past, and I felt that I had to do something with it.

Blogging was such a new concept for me back then. I didn't even know how to start my own blog. I didn't have any ideas of what to do as I really didn't have any material to post, except for my memories. So I started simply by making a list of all the random things I could remember of my childhood. Nostalgia List #01 was my first post in this blog.
A lot of people somehow found that particular post and started leaving comments. This interaction encouraged me to dig up my personal files for more material to add onto my new posts. More comments came! It was clear that my audience was slowly growing, and Nostalgia Fever was beginning to spread.

After only a few weeks, I came up with a weekly posting schedule that contained weekly features. My readers always looked forward to seeing all the new features that were coming up. I made new friends and teamed up with people who were also into old things of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. People slowly started taking notice of this blog, and since its first conception, Nostalgia Manila has been featured in newspapers, magazines, television shows, and has even been nominated several times in the first annual Phil Blog Awards. It has become one of the favorite blogs by many Filipinos at home and abroad. It has brought people together, and has become a spacial treasure chest of memories for everyone.

I'd like to thank all of the people that have helped make this blog what it is today. Many thanks to the Nostalgia Manila family, the regular contributors of this blog: Sir Nicholas Stoodley, Gerry Alanguilan, Totoy Time Machine, Shawn Robare, Kim Castro, and the newest member of the family, Jojo Devera.

But most importantly I'd like to thank ALL OF YOU Nostalgia Fanatics! Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories! Let's continue to relive the wonderful days of yesteryear, and continue to spread Nostalgia Fever!

With sincerest gratitude, I'd like to thank you all! Thank you for making this a very special day!

Always,
--NM

Can't Stop Thinking About Nostalgia Manila!

Posted on 1:15 AM by fjtrfjf

Hello Nostalgia Fanatics! It sure has been a fun week here at Nostalgia Manila. Many thanks to those that emailed me about the cool 80's Erasers feature. I'm glad you all enjoyed it! For those of you who haven't seen it, check it out! Those cool erasers were courtesy of our good friend Shawn Robare who does the fun "Peel Here!" segment every other Friday. There's actually a new one coming up tomorrow so don't miss that!

My friend and I had a discussion the other day about old restaurants, and all the great food we remembered eating back in the day. Whether it was sipping what seemed like the tastiest mango juice at the old Jeepney Bar, an afternoon Hamburger at Club Filipino, taking a big bite off a juicy Jumbo Hotdog at Sulo, or sharing an Ernie & Bert banana split at Magnolia Ice Cream House, most of our fondest memories included our love for eating good food!

So I thought of something fun we can all do together. I would like all you Nostalgia Fanatics to dig up your old photos, and look for the photos that had some food in it! It could be a photo of your birthday party with your birthday cake that was especially made at the local bakery, or maybe you've got a photo of you and the family eating at an old restaurant that isn't around anymore, or even a photo of you and your playmates buying afternoon taho, fishballs, or dirty ice cream! "Basta may pagkain!" (As long as there's food in the photo!)

So dig up your photos and email them to me, 'cos I'm thinking of doing a new segment called "Nostalgia Food Trip"! It's going to be real fun so start digging up your old photos!

I'm glad that so many of you have been enjoying the cool new shows that were added to the Nostalgia Manila Free TV schedule. It's only going to get better as I'll be adding more show titles very soon.

Hey! I want to get your opinion on something, and since there's so many of you, let's take a vote! Which cartoon series would you guys rather see?

Episodes of Josie And The Pussycats? OR The Super Friends?

Get your vote in and spam this post with comments! LOL. Whichever cartoon gets the most votes will be the series that will be added on soon.

And finally, for those of you who haven't gotten their FREE MONEY yet, don't wait and get to it right away!!!! Make and easy $20 right now! This is NOT A GIMMICK! All you need is a blog and a PayPal account to receive your money. If you blog, you can get paid an easy $20! What are you waiting for? Follow the link and make an easy 20 bucks right now!

New Updates & What's going on with the NM Notebook!

Posted on 3:49 PM by fjtrfjf

Hello to all you Nostalgia Fanatics!

I'd like to thank everyone who has been linking to the NEW NM Exclusive Interview with Roger Rigor of VST & Company! There's been a lot of great feedback from Nostalgia Manila readers, and VST fans from all over have been talking about this interview. I've traced some cool linkage to various online forums! Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat! I spoke with Roger the other day to let him know that a lot of VST fans are loving his interview, and he was very happy to receive this exciting news.

Yugel Losorta recently did a feature on other VST member Monet Gaskell in an article for the Manila Bulletin. Someone posted a copy of the article as a comment here, so scroll down the comments page and you'll find the article pasted by a certain Mr. Anonymous. I've been receiving emails from many VST fans asking for more intervirews! To all you VST fans, I am planning to do more interviews with other VST members! So if all goes well (cross your fingers!), you'll be seeing more VST interviews here soon!

A video has been added to the fun Game & Watch page! I won't spoil the fun by telling you what's in the video so you have to see for yourself, but I promise it's really cool! Go check it out as soon as you finish reading this.

I've been doing a lot of video link updating to make sure all the videos here are working. I'm happy to let everyone know that I've updated a lot of video links this weekend, and the ones that have been down for a while are now viewable! Yehey! A few of my personal video favorites that are now online are Boys Do Fall In Love - Robin Gibb and Secret - OMD. I've created some Top Video Picks lists, which list the top videos that are viewed by you Nostalgia Fans! These lists can be found on the sidebar, so scroll down the sidebar and check them out! Lots of newly updated videos for your viewing pleasure!

Finally, the most important piece of news! A lot of you have been emailing and asking about the current condition of the NM notebook. Everyone wants to know when I'll be able to post new features and resume the regular Nostalgia Manila posting schedule. Well, I spoke to the laptop doctors over the weekend and they said that the problem isn't so complicated, and that they can fix it! Phew! Thank goodness! BUT, since they're the best laptop doctors (and every person here in America goes to them for the best repairs), they're a bit backed up right now and it will take a few days before they can get to service the NM notebook. But not to worry! No pouting! I have been very busy preparing delicious treats and NEW features for all of you Nostalgia Fanatics, and I promise to bring you all the Nostalgia Goodness once the NM notebook is back from the repair shop!

In the meantime have fun exploring the archives. There's so much to discover! Check out all the cool posts and features you may have missed. I will still continue to check and respond to emails and messages, so keep those emails coming! Everyone is still encouraged to send material for all our favorite weekly features. So sit tight everyone! Nostalgia Manila will be back on its regular posting schedule with so much more very soon! STAY TUNED!

Continue to spread Nostalgia Fever!

Always,
--NM

A few words to some of the Philippine Blog Awards volunteers

Posted on 6:59 PM by fjtrfjf
As you all know I appointed JJ Juno as the official representative to attend the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards ceremony on behalf of Nostalgia Manila. I received many emails from wonderful and supportive fans that were all so kind to offer attending the awards ceremony for me, but it was JJ whom I felt was perfect for the task. He spoke of Nostalgia Manila with such admiration, and was much honored to represent one of the finalists.

To my disappointment, it was sad to hear JJ's accounts of how he was mistreated by some of the volunteers. Let us all remember that the intention behind the Philippine Blog Awards is a great gesture facilitated by its hardworking organizers. To recognize the accomplishments of the Filipino's presence in the blogosphere is something to be taken seriously, and I am quite sure that the organizers envisioned the event to exude with class and dignity.

Treating my representative in a very classless manner is more than just being rude, but it also misrepresents the great message behind such an event. As volunteers, your job is to meet and greet all the attendees and make sure they feel welcome. You must treat everyone with utmost respect, especially those that took time off from their busy schedule to represent one of the finalists. To make my representative feel akward with your cheap snide remarks, cheapen the quality of the event as well.

I am very disappointed with all of you that did this to my appointed representative. It is not only insulting to one person, but it is also insulting to the entire Nostalgia Manila community. It is my hope that the organizers will take note of this unfortunate detail, and that precautions be made when screening the quality of volunteers for next year's event. Maintaining only the highest of standards as guidelines will not only ensure great success, but satisfaction and praise from everyone.

Sincerely,
--NM

NM needs a PROXY for the 2007 Phil Blog Awards!

Posted on 10:29 PM by fjtrfjf

I was contacted by one of the organizers for the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards, asking for my information relating to my attendance. As you all know, I am based in NYC and will not be able to attend. Another reason that's quite obvious to all of Nostalgia Manila's fans and devoted readers, is the fact that I've always kept my identity secret. I've always stressed in every interview that Nostalgia Manila is about the people as a whole, and I would not want it focused on the individual who simply publishes it.

The organizers would like someone to attend the awards night on behalf of Nostalgia Manila; just in case Nostalgia Manila wins the award for Best Fashion & Lifestyle Blog. So if any of you would like to go to attend, send me an email (nostalgiamanilamail[at]yahoo[dot]com). Give me your name and I will forward your info to the organizers so they can issue you and your friends tickets. Just promise me that you'll take some photos for us to post ok? Deal? Cool! Let me know! This should be fun!

Always,
