Waking at 5AM. Sneaking downstairs. Powering up the TV. Its soft glow gently showers my still sleepy eyes. I'd connect the Famicom cables to the TV then insert the Battle City cartidge. The familiar drone sound goes out the speaker.
I'd go back up the room and gently nudge my brother. "Manggalaw ta la" (Come on let's play), I'd say. We'd play until my parents wake up and scold us for playing games early in the morning. Hehe.
When we get tired of playing Battle City, we'd argue what to play next - Double Dragon, Contra (up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-b-a-select-start. hah, still remember it!), Twin bee, Punch-out, 1942 or the 30-in-1 cartridge.
If we do not have a consensus, a toss coin is the last resort. Whoever wins gets to choose the game.
I am an 80's kid. Yes I am and I believe that it is the best time to grow-up in.
